It is no secret that the reverence for motherhood isn't what it should be. I have come across a lot of literature lately that blatantly discredits a dedicated mom as nothing more than a waste of time, that professional caretakers are the answer for our crumbling society. First I was surprised, then offended, and finally decided that they were nothing more then completely flawed and disconnected with reality. So I watched my work-a-holic wife, and came up with some remarkable numbers; statistics that would make any too-good-for-motherhood business woman green with envy...
Kayla on a daily basis produces an average
per child: (this does NOT include my wee contributions)
3.5 changes of clothing
2.5 meals
3.25 snacks
0.6 loads of laundry
1.2 kid-friendly crafts/activities
8.2 messes cleaned up (personally cleaning or supervising)
2.3 poopy diapers
2.3 rooms reorganized
4.2 movies quoted in entirety or near completion
2.0 new games invented
5.0 refills on drinks
0.5 loads of dishes
8.0 books read
totaling 43.55 units of service per child, for a combined daily productivity of 130.65 units of motherhood. I guess we could even include the sleepless nights and other symptoms that frequent pregnant women. I missed count on dressed up dolls and polly pockets, and movie requests. I skipped woes consoled because our diva has sa breakdown an hour, so I didn't think it was fair... Kayla is Super Woman, that is not news. The conclusion is that motherhood isn't a 40 hr/a week job, there is no paid vacation, no days off, no sick days or promotions. In fact I am sure that when the girls get to be teenagers, they'll mentally demote her from mom to being an overprotective crazy lady that embarrasses them in front of their friends.
Kayla, I been watching you, I know that my list could never be exhaustive of all the motherly duties that you perform, but I've watched you're craft, and conclude that motherhood is not for the faint of heart!
Make today Mother's Day, and tell yours that your glad you weren't raised by a professional, instead you were loved by a mom.
